About Karol Jakimowicz
Karol Jakimowicz is a UX professional specializing in user research, digital product development, UX design, and innovation management. Based in Berlin, he has worked across the digital product lifecycle, combining research, design, prototyping, testing, and business thinking to help organizations create products and services that respond to real user needs.
Karol takes a holistic approach to UX research. Rather than focusing exclusively on quantitative research or individual usability problems, his work begins with understanding the problem itself, validating product ideas, analyzing target audiences, and uncovering users’ needs, motivations, behaviors, and concerns.
His research and UX toolkit includes research management, expert interviews, in-depth interviews, UX testing, eye tracking, rapid testing, user journey mapping, usability testing, top-task analysis, benchmarking, web analytics, prototyping, and wireframing. He combines these methods with UX design, visual design, and business modeling to create a more complete understanding of both users and the products being developed.
Karol has worked extensively on mobile products, particularly Android and iOS applications, as well as websites and products with smart interfaces. His experience includes working with startups and technology companies on new product development, product validation, and market expansion.
One of the most significant chapters of his career was at calimoto, where he worked from the company’s founding in 2016 as Head of Design for User Experience and Research and Lead Innovation Management. His responsibilities included coordinating and conducting user research, prototyping, visual design, testing, overseeing the overall user experience, and guiding related teams.
Karol has also worked on digital products across several industries. His projects have included a sports and nutrition application, a savings application for iOS and Android, a cross-platform event application, and products involving 3D scanning, 3D printing, and digital modeling. His work has included product conception, user research, design thinking, information architecture, customer journey mapping, service thinking, prototyping, and product development.
His experience also includes consulting for startups and small and medium-sized businesses, helping organizations address challenges related to corporate identity, product identity, user research, and digital product development.
Karol’s academic background combines engineering, psychology, project management, and digital product development. He holds a Master of Arts in Industrial Engineering and Project Management from Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin, with a focus on digital product development and UX processes. He also studied media technology, with a focus on digital product development.
His multidisciplinary education has influenced his approach to UX by connecting an understanding of people and behavior with product development, technology, and organizational processes. He has also completed training in Design Thinking and Design Sprints, UX Thinking, innovation management in digital transformation, and Scrum.
Karol works across multiple languages and cultures. His professional profiles list German as his native language, English at a professional level, Polish, and French. His current LinkedIn profile also identifies him as bilingual in English and German.
His current LinkedIn profile identifies him with Otto Group and describes his focus around designing and operationalizing research systems. This builds on his earlier experience as a UX professional and researcher, extending his expertise into the systems and processes that help organizations conduct research effectively.
As a contributor to Userlytics resources, Karol brings a perspective that connects user research with the broader digital product development process. His experience demonstrates how research can inform product strategy, design, prototyping, testing, and innovation rather than functioning as a separate stage of development.
Through his work across research, UX design, product development, service design, and innovation management, Karol emphasizes understanding the problem before jumping to a solution. His multidisciplinary approach helps teams move from assumptions to evidence and from product ideas to experiences grounded in real user needs.
